Abstract Ordered mesoporous silicas MCM-41, HMS, SBA-15 (hexagonal), and MCM-48 (cubic) have been synthesized and functionalized with propylsulfonic acid groups by post-oxidation method. Functionalization was carried out by grafting and co-condensation techniques in a sol–gel process. This process required TEOS, MPTS and an appropriate surfactant as structure-directing agent. Mesoporous silica materials (HS-JLU-20) with an extremely high content of mercaptopropyl groups have been successfully synthesized using fluorocarbon−hydrocarbon surfactant mixtures through a simple co-condensation approach of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTS), which are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption and desorption

For the case of the organosilica, 1,2-bis-(triethoxysilyl)ethane (BTSE, Aldrich) was additionally incorporated. 10% of total silicon atoms were functionalized with propyl-sulfonic acid groups. Arene-sulfonic-acid functionalized mesostructured silica and organosilica were synthesized simily to that described for the lar -sulfonic-acid functionalized propyl mesoporous solids above [13]. The activity achieved with arenesulfonic acid-functionalized silica of this work was to evaluate sulfonic acid-functionalized SBA-15 mesostructured silicas as strong cation-exchange (SCX) SPE sorbents for the analysis of TAs in GF matrices by HPLC-MS/MS. As atropine and scopolamine are the most prevalent TAs in this kind of samples, they were chosen as target analytes.
